Xiri's Gaming Moments of 2023 - Devlog 008

1 - Shin Megami Tensei V

From calling out how pretentious I am to asking me if I was a top or bottom, having the demons of Shin Megami Tensei V make fun of me has been one of the highlights of 2023. During our journey to become a new god, you also get to find these lovely dorks at the ruins of a temple. 

They gave you two side quest, one looking for their lost rocky friend and another where you get to fight them. My character was so over leveled by that point that he one shot'd them. Made me wish there was a full game where we all could hang the day together.

2 - tomorrow is my birthday 

In Melos's Best Games of 2023, he talks about how by playing a game, you're also getting a sense of the person who made it. tomorrow is my birthday by riley<9 is the perfect example of that. Your birthday is coming and you're running away from home with your robot friend. An emotive journey that hits really hard with an exciting future ahead.

3 - NeGcon drifting

Look at this gorgeus controller, it's the NeGcon and this year I finally got one! My dreams of drifting around Ridge Racer Type 4 by twisting the silky smooth NegCon have been finally realised.

4 - Sayonara o Oshiete ~Comment te Dire Adieu

I always wondered where this organic angel came from. Thanks to the recent english fan translation I was able to playing this sunset tinted nightmare. As soon as Ueno Koyori appeared with her bow, I was cheering for her to kill our disgusting protagonist. If you ever think about playing it, be aware, there's no uplifting twist here. 

5 - Evangelion - 3nd impact - 

Thanks to the book of interviews by Luis García Navarro I got to know that Kazutoshi Iida, creator of Doshin the Giant,  made an Evangelion rhythm game for the PSP.  It's based on the second Rebuild movie and there's 4 different kind of mechanics. On my favourite one you control an electrocardiogram and with each button press you trigger a voice line. You can see an example with Rei at the video above at 20:00. Another mode starts by having the screen full on red and with each button press you start uncovering the movie behind, feels like clearing a blurry mind.  Each part of the game oozes with love and makes me want to learn how to make a rhythm game so I can unleash my DDR/Stepmania memories into a new game.

6 - Love & Dehumanization

Have you ever wanted to turn yourself into a monster in a RPG so you could be killed by different adventurers? Aria talks about her desires and conflicts in this wholesome visual novel made for the Queer Games Bundle 2023. Each chapter goes deep and I was crying the whole time as I could see myself in it. One of the most emotive, caring experience of this 2023.
